Question 1

How does VidGet work?

Accepted Answer

VidGet uses yt-dlp, an open-source media extraction library, to fetch publicly available video metadata and download streams from the source server. You paste a URL, we retrieve available formats, and stream the chosen file directly to your browser.

Question 2

What URLs are supported?

Accepted Answer

Any publicly accessible URL that yt-dlp supports — including Vimeo, TikTok, Twitter/X, Dailymotion, Reddit, Twitch clips, SoundCloud, and thousands more. YouTube is not supported. If the video plays in a browser without a login, it will usually work.

Question 3

Why isn't YouTube supported?

Accepted Answer

YouTube does not allow downloads from server backends (the kind of infrastructure VidGet runs on), so it is not possible to download or stream YouTube videos here. Use any of the other supported platforms instead.

Question 4

Can I download audio only?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When the platform provides an audio-only stream, it appears in the available formats list. You can download it separately without the video track.

Question 5

Why can't some videos be downloaded?

Accepted Answer

Videos that are private, require a login, are age-restricted, DRM-protected, members-only, or geo-blocked cannot be downloaded. VidGet only supports publicly accessible content and does not attempt to bypass any access controls.

Question 6

Why does some videos take longer to process?

Accepted Answer

When the best-quality stream is video-only (as is common on many platforms), we need to download a separate audio track and combine them using FFmpeg. Longer or higher-resolution videos take more time to fetch and merge.

Question 7

Where is the file saved after downloading?

Accepted Answer

The file is delivered directly to your browser and saved to your default Downloads folder, just like any other file you download from the web.

Question 8

Is there a file size limit?

Accepted Answer

By default the server caps downloads at 100 MB and videos at 10 minutes of duration to keep the service fast and available. For longer videos, there may be a lower quality setting.
